Our founder, Kris, dedicated over 20 years of his life serving Canada as a commissioned army officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, specializing in identifying problems, creating solutions, strategizing concept of operations, and executing operations. Throughout his military career, he was deployed to places like Afghanistan and Iraq, and had the privilege of leading many soldiers. Unfortunately, throughout his service, he suffered many critical injuries such as severe chronic back pain, hearing loss, torn ligament in his knee, and eventually, a diagnosis of MDS that ultimately forced him to medically retire from active service in 2024.
Rather than staying idle and clinically depressed, Kris decided to obtain his master’s degree in Global Management, focusing on global enterprise operations, business strategies, intercultural studies, change management, and finance management. From there, he achieved the university's Founders' Award for leadership, commitment to sustainability, positive and proactive work in equity, diversity and inclusion, and personal growth; and the Chancellor's Award for achieving highest GPA in the program within the academic year.
However, his suffering from the injuries gradually increased over time. He tried steroid injections, radio-frequency ablations, physiotherapy, kinesiology, chiro-therapy, acupuncture, osteopath, basically anything that the Canadian medical system suggested. When every treatment failed to provide any long-term solutions to his injuries, he started to lose all hope.
Over the years, Kris' in-laws have consistently suggested for him to try stem-cell therapy abroad. His in-laws were optimistic about these therapies because they have had numerous positive experiences from overseas stem-cell and NK-cell therapies to treat their immunity issues, tumors, and cancer cells. At first, Kris rejected the idea many times due to his skeptics on the quality of healthcare outside of Canada and the negative perceptions about stem-cell research by his Canadian physicians and healthcare providers. However, when he felt like he was out of options, in 2026, he decided to take a leap of faith and listen to his in-laws.
Upon arriving to the Daqin Cancer Hospital in Guiyang, Guizhou Province of China, he was surprised by the sheer size and the quality of their "small" hospital. The hospital was bigger and more modern than any exisiting hospitals in Canada. At the entrance, he was greeted by the hospital's host and was given a VIP tour of the hospital where he was shown each of their medical departments followed by a presentation of the hospital's history, awards, and official certifications to conduct specialized therapies. Then, a nurse, with a binder of hospital's available diagnostics, asked Kris about his medical concerns and together they decided on what type of diagnositcs he needed. The next morning, he went through 2x MRI scans, 1x CT scan, full body ultrasound, bone density scan, bacterial breath tests, urine test, various blood tests, and a 4-point blood pressure test, all within 3 hours of the visit. While the results of the test were being reviewed, Kris went on an optional guided scenic tour of the Guizhou province where he discovered the beauty of China's natural landscape and ancient cities.
When he returned to the hospital, a physician went over all the test results in english and confirmed his existing known conditions and discovered new health concerns that could potentially become serious if left untreated. Of note, these findings would have never surfaced in Canadian medical screenings since he did not experience or display any symptoms. Luckily, these new concerns were in their early stages and he was told that they could be treated through existing medicine supplied by hospital. Given his health examination, the doctor suggested that he would be a good fit for stem-cell therapy.
The following day he received two stem-cell injections, one through IV and one through a direct injection to his injured knee. He was told to take it easy for the next 6 months to allow the stem cells to repair his body. After few hours of showing no adverse effects of the treatments, he was discharged from the hospital. Other than the discomfort in his knee from the injection, he did not feel any different. He was still experiencing the same chronic back pain.
A week after returning to Canada, Kris woke up one morning and realized something was different. The chronic back pain disappeared - but rather than getting his hopes up, he kept going about his days. Then after a month, while still being pain-free, he noticed a significant increase in stability and strength in his injured knee. He described it like it was a miracle - it gave him a new hope for his life. This was when he made the decision to dedicate his next chapter of his life, helping others experience similar relief to their existing conditions. This was where Elite Priority Health began.
